Abstract

This article is concerned with discussing the views and practices of History teachers in Public Basic Schools in the Amazon region, more specifically in Ananindeua - a city in the State of Pará. It addresses the inclusion of environmental themes in these teachers classes. To this end, the research carried out interviews – between 2016 and 2020 – with 14 History teachers from Elementary School (from the Sixth Year to the Ninth Year) and High School, applying a semi-structured questionnaire. Furthermore, classes of some of the teachers were observed in order to verify how they carry out environmental discussion in practice. The investigation made it possible to understand that History Teaching in Ananindeua Schools is in line with the national scenario, in which environmental issues rarely appear in History classes, despite teachers, when questioned, affirming the importance of Nature and the Environment for historical processes and History Teaching. The regional theme was mentioned by few teachers, contradicting the hypothesis that predicted the Amazon appearing very frequently in the interviews.
