Abstract

This article aims to reflect on the craft of midwives and pregnancy care in the Middle Ages based on an analysis of the medical precepts found in the work Lilio da Medicina by Bernardo de Gordônio (1258-1318). In this way, we seek to understand the role of midwives, not only during pregnancy and childbirth, but also in the care of newborns and the postpartum period.
