Abstract

This article aims to analyze how the ruling classes of the city of Rio de Janeiro, in the face of the Centenary of Independence in 1922, undertook urban reforms, with the overthrow of Morro do Castelo being the biggest one, with the objective of erasing from the image of national memory, thought in the period, the subaltern classes and their spaces of sociability, considered a delay.
