GENDER RELATIONS IN CERAMIC WORK

The present article proposes an analysis of gender relations in the pottery work in the Poti Velho neighborhood, in Teresina, Piauí. We seek to understand how social gender expectations manifested themselves in the performance of four women ceramics workers from the Cooperative of Handicraft of the Poti Velho neighborhood (COOPERART-Poty); which conflicts arose when they assumed the identity of ceramics workers and how they dealt with these issues. We noticed that they suffered criticism, demands and conflicts as workers, in the family and labor sphere, based on social constructions about a sexual division of labor.
